Back in May I met the fine folks of Meat Fight at the Red Dirt BBQ and Music Festival and heard the glorious things in store for their first ever MF1K. Having never been able to get tickets to the annual Meat Fight competition, I made it a priority to make sure to get tickets to this event. With the help of my sister-in-law, who made sure she was not working the moment tickets went on sale, we were able to grab a pair.
The event was held at Tupps Brewery in McKinney, TX. Once you arrived, you knew it was going to be a great time with the energy of the “referees” and those volunteering. After a quick rundown of the rules (see video) the 1K began.
With 20 stations and staggered start times, the lines moved fairly quickly and we were able to sample some great BBQ, spirits, and desserts within 40 minutes. Highlights included pulled pork from One90 Smoked Meats, Jell-O shots from Buffalo Trace Whiskey and Meatballs from Cadillac Pizza. Needless to say we were stuffed by the time we reached the finish line.
It was a fantastic experience and $24K was raised for MS by a bunch of folks acting goofy, enjoying wonderful food and alcohol on a Sunday afternoon. I look forward to the next Meat Fight event which is November 13th with tickets going on Sale October 4th. Please visit www.meatfight.com for tickets and details.
